Cardboard Racing Wheel
Budget racing for PS4
Racing wheels seem a lot of fun, but can get expensive quickly!
About the project
Cardboard on the other hand is cheap, readily available and can be made into all sorts of useful creations.
Back in 2020 I wanted to try out a racing-wheel controller without investing any cash I made use of cardboard, thread and spare vex robotics plastic to tie the left-right stick movements of a PS4 controller to the rotations of a wheel, and the triggers to the pressing of physical cardboard pedals.
The result
It works! Bringing this project to completion was the start of a very unhealthy relationship with spamming hot glue until everything fits together.
Did it make me better at TrackMania? Did I manufacture them into a new budget option to sell around the world? No, but a fun side project is more than enough reason to chuck something like this together.
