Fun, immersive cardio for ANY game!
I made a standard under-desk bike into an immersive physical game controller, great for everyone from those who want for exercise during their FPS games to those wanting extra immersive movement in Minecraft!
This pedal-keyboard hybrid combines both your legs AND gaming keyboard inputs, letting you keep all the control you are used to while also involving your normal walking movements.
As you will see in the project video it quickly evolved from a dance mat bound to WASD into a bike with a USB port. The keyboard sends input to the Leonardo board, and then based on the pedal speed and direction the Leonardo chooses which keypresses to emulate as output.
This works pretty well and I do intend to continue this project; with code improvements and further iterations on the physical construction I would hope to produce this one for others to buy one day.
The power supply was often not needed, however it did seem to be needed with certain keyboards early on in development. At this point, I would recommend users to first try without.
